To Goiserhütte you
get either from Gosau via Iglmoosalm or
Bad Goisern.
1833 m high Kalmberg is just 1 hour away. The path stays more or less
on the ridge between Gosau and Goisern. Just beside the path about
10 minutes from Goisererhütte is a cave called "Kalmoos".
In the 18 th century it was a place where the protestants celebrated
their belief when it was forbidden.
Shortly before we reach the summit looking to Sarstein you can recognice
in the summit rock the profile of the head of an Indian.
The view from the top will let you forget the last hours, it is just
gorgeous. Deep down in the valley on the one side there is Gosau where
we have started, on the other side Goisern and lake Hallstatt. The
parade of mountains is starting in the north with Traunstein, followed
by the "Totes Gebirge", Predigstuhl, Zwerchwand, Sandling,
Loser, Trisselwand, Sarstein, Krippenstein, the mountain range of
Dachstein and all the peaks of Gosaukamm. Very close are Plassen,
Rußberg and Gamsfeld, on the horizon you can admire Großglockner,
the highest mountain of Austria.
If you are lucky you can watch the paragliders who use Kalmberg as
their starting point. That would be nice too for us, but we have to
walk all the way back. |
