Hinterer Gosausee
|
|
starting point:
|
Vorderer Gosausee
|
|
time:
|
1 - 2 hours to Upper Lake
|
|
character:
|
easy walk on a small gravel road
|
This wonderful walk is for everybody.
The ascent is very little. Nevertheless you should expect approximatly
1 ½ hours.
Starting point is Lake Gosau (called "Vorderer Gosausee").
A small gravel road is leading from Lake Gosau to the Upper Lake.
We start at the left side of Gosausee and walk along the lake to its
end where the gravel road branches out. We follow the road into the
wood. It is now slightly rising and in 10 minutes we are coming to
Holzmeisteralm (973 m).

|
|
About 10 minutes we walk now along "Gosaulacke",
which is 5 to 6 m deep. In hot summers Gosaulacke is very small
and hidden behind trees, but after heavy rains this lake extends
to Holzmeisteralm.
Now it is getting a little bit steeper. Passing a
waterfall the small road is taking us higher. After the steepest
part - looking down to the right, you can sometimes see and hear
a waterfall - the gravel road is completely flatening. The Upper
Lake is close. We are passing a bridge, but most time of the year
the river that leaves the Upper Lake is dry.
Five minutes later we reach the Upper Lake, which is lying 1160
m above sealevel. It is 900 m long, 500 m wide and its depth is
between 36 and 43 m, depending on the season.
Like mentioned before water is running out of the lake just when
we have high water.
On the southern end of the lake there is an alp called
Hintere Seealm where you can take a rest. In
summer here you meet the cows. If it is very hot sometimes the cows
are standing in the water to cool down.

Going further on to Adamekhütte
you still have 6,4 km to go and 1000 m to climb up. (2 ½ -
3 ½ Std.). Another possibilty is to go further on to Hallstatt
which takes about 5 hours. |
